Bags, Bags, Bags!

I don't know about you, but I am a sucker for a great bag. Something that stands out, goes with every outfit, and just makes me happy:) First is the Hobo Trinity Bag...beautiful in every way. It's a great size, shape, and has just the right amount of detail. Recently carried by Taylor Swift, it's no surprise why this bag is worth the splurge!(Available in Black, Mocha, Sage-shown, and Aubergine) Then there is the Lucky Brand Clutch on Fire. This versatile bag has a removable strap long enough to wear across your body.(Available in Black, Teak-shown, and Capri) Next is this striking Lucky Brand patchwork bag. Big enough to carry anything you could possibly need, and colorful enough to spruce up any Neutral Nancy's wordrobe. Which one is your fav??

I'm SO Excited!

So I know it's only the first week of November, but I am so excited for Xmas! As we speak I am burning the new Votivo Gingersnap candle and planning what fun things to do for my Christmas windows and displays. So, I had to share this with you today. Jana from Dayton, OH has made these absolutely precious stockings for me from mostly vintage fabric! If you would like one let me know soon...she only made six! Hope you are all having a wonderful week:)

Get The Look: Mad Men

AMC's Mad Men has influenced everyone in fashion from Michael Kors to the design team behind Banana Republic. The look is chic, sophisticated and distinctly retro without feeling campy. Kors' Fall 2008 take on the show's sheath dresses and pearls-and-cardi glam were on the money - and cost a lot of it. To get the look for less, stop by The Yellow Button and follow these styling tips for a decidedly younger take on the show's signatures.

January Jones' separates have a housefrau vibe that doesn't jive with your average buttonista. Pair our gray bow neck top and abstract floral skirt from Tulle to get a similarly put-together effect without the Betty Crocker connotations.

Elisabeth Moss's dress has a similar neckline to our olive number from Hazel, but switch out the staid buffalo check for a neutral tone and sacrifice all of those buttons for a nice, wide belt to get a look that's more Sex And The City.

Christina Hendricks' curves work well with simple sheath dresses accessorized to perfection. Take our purple dress from Tulle and add a pop of color with a bright belt and, maybe, a vintage turquoise brooch. Our yellow Tulle dress has a fantastic shape and comes with its own waist-cincher, so spruce it up with a fantastic bag and the right pair of shoes.

For more ideas and the best shopping in Harrisonburg, stop by The Yellow Button today!

1) Blouse, Tulle $58
2) Skirt, Tulle $55
3) Dress, Hazel $127
4) Dress, Tulle $68
5) Dress, Tulle $60

Friday Night Sights

Looking for a swanky and sophisticated way to spend your Friday evening? Then stop by the Artful Dodger on August 7th between 6-8pm for the opening of Brandy Somers' new art show, accompanied by the music of Wolf Gang.

Brandy is the fabulous photographer behind our summer campaign and her art is, needless to say, just as spectacular as her photography.

The exhibition is on display until August 30th for those of you who won't be able to make it out next Friday, so be sure to tell your friends and make a date with the arts!

Get The Look: Balmain

Not all of the outfits in The Yellow Button are made for bohemian rhapsodizing. This BB Dakota jacket, available on InStyle.com for 20% off, paired with skinny jeans from Blank or Free People and a slouchy, deep-V neck t-shirt make for a ready-to-wear homage to the Balmania that's sweeping the fashion scene. Tastemakers like Rihanna and Beyoncé love the brand's modern take on 80's acid wash and shoulder pads.

Obviously "acid wash" and "shoulder pads" bring back more bad memories than good for the average consumer, so we've taken into account wearability by pairing the Michael Jackson-influenced jacket with slim, edgy jeans that don't cost a fortune and loose-fitting tees any Brooklynite would go gaga over.

Stop by The Yellow Button today to see more looks from BB Dakota and your other favorite brands!

Jacket, BB Dakota $102
Blue jeans, Blank $70
Grey jeans, Free People $68
White T-shirt, Existential West
Purple T-shirt, Heavy Rotation $28

A lot of you have been asking, will The Yellow Button ever sell guy's clothing? Yes! By the end of the summer we'll be selling TOMS for guys as well as t-shirts from Heavy Rotation. Tell your brother, your boyfriend, even your hip dad!

Hopefully everyone's 4th was a great (safe) time! Stay tuned to the blog this week for a special accessories preview and more updates on your favorite bands at your favorite Harrisonburg boutique.

Hollywood It Girls Draw BLANK

Is it just us or do L.A.'s pretty young thing's have a soft spot for BLANK jeans? Ashlee Simpson and Victoria's Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio were both spotted rocking the studded pocket style (Alessandra's were cut-offs, of course). Then we noticed that Elle covergirl-cum-red carpet showstopper Megan Fox wore a white pair (as seen on InStyle.com!) for her role in Transformers 2. Stop by The Yellow Button to pick up your pair today!

Four For The 4th

July 4th is coming up fast, and if you haven't found the perfect party dress, don't worry! We've got you (stylishly) covered.

1) Free People $108
2) Heavy Rotation $42
3) BB Dakota $63
4) Free People $148

Also, don't forget to join us at the annual Bloomfest celebration this Friday in the Farmer's Market pavilion from 2-5pm. Over 60 local businesses (including yours truly) will be in attendance, kicking off the holiday weekend with food, music and shopping! Stop by our table and pick up About Color bracelets or Envirosax to tote around your purchases.

Let's Talk About Sax (Envirosax!)

Everyone knows it's terribly passé to tote around groceries in plastic bags. That's why you've got to get in store now to pick up your Envirosax. We've got nylon and linen versions (pictured), which retail for $10 and $27, respectively. Grab one in preppy kelly green polka dots or bohemian linen and avoid dirty stares from eco-friendly fashionstas!

Luck Be A Lady Mag

July's Lucky has The Yellow Button written all over it!

They love "So You Think You Can Dance?" host Cat Deeley's Coachella outfit, saying it's "everything we want for the hottest days of the year." Recreate the look with an embroidered top from Hazel and a pair of white linen shorts.

Market editor Noria Morales says this necklace from Rebel is "So unusual, like a priceless Native American antique." You'll also find a special page devoted to leather and metal bracelets, with this pretty Chan Luu number taking center stage.

Chan Luu bracelets, $155-$220

A note about the survey...

There was a slight glitch with the survey - one of the brands was mislabeled! We've fixed it all up though, and if you'd already voted, be sure to vote again! We want everyone's opinion to count.

Button & The Beat

We've added a new feature to the site today: now you can let us know what your favorite Yellow Button brands are! The poll to your right will be up for a whole two weeks, which is plenty of time to pick your number one (or your top five). If there are any particular styles or brands you think are missing from the store, feel free to mention them in the comments section. We're always open to feedback!

We've also updated the bandwagon with classic hits and modern indie favorites. On who else's playlist does David Bowie's inimitable "Let's Dance" tango with The Arcade Fire?

Music and fashion are closely intertwined industries and states of mind - show us a person whose outfit doesn't match their iTunes. When I first met Katie, one of our models, she was carrying a Bat For Lashes tote over which we bonded. What a coincidence then, that Bat For Lashes just played an impromptu concert at a Lucky Brand store in Santa Monica, considering the fact that we sell Lucky Brand and Bat For Lashes fans shop in our store!

What do you think? Any recovering Hollister addicts out there, seeking shelter from the low lights and throbbing club tunes in favor of a brighter, more au courant shopping experience with tunes to match? Then stop by The Yellow Button!

Button Style At Bonnaroo

Style.com has posted their favorite street style pics from the Bonnaroo music festival and two of the festival goers are rocking Yellow Button brands! Ms. Bohemian Rhapsody on the left is kicking it in Frye boots (you can't see 'em, but Style.com captions don't lie) and the haute hippie to the right is well-heeled in Minnetonka moccasins (and a retro floral print that feels right on the money).

Now, we don't mean to suggest that shopping in our store will have you pallin' around MGMT concerts with Drew Barrymore, but it will give you the best possible wardrobe for that situation, should you ever find yourself in it!

Trendspotting: Bracelets

Bracelets are an on-trend summer accessory as June and July temperatures rocket into anti-cute-scarves territory. Go bright and funky stacking up exotic bangles or sticking to one or two of your favorites in bright hues (which you can find in store).

The Elle news blog is a fan of Phi's heavy metal cuffs and our Rebel bracelets are the perfect hybrid of hardware and chic wear for the cuff aficionado.

Bracelets by Rebel (shown); $65-$80

Jump On The Bandwagon

It's been almost an entire day since our last post! In our downtime we've been mulling over a new feature for the blog - The Yellow Button Bandwagon. Now, whenever you come into the store and hear a song you like, you can run back home and check out the list to your right to find out who you've been listening to (or look it up on your iPhone, where you've got our blog bookmarked in your browser, of course!)

Right now we've got the first half of our opening day playlist posted for your perusing pleasure. Clicking on the song will take you directly to Amazon MP3 so you can preview it and find more by the artist.

Enjoy!

Work In Progress

The Yellow Button boutique has been a work in progress for months now, but come Saturday you'll be able to see the what we've been up to!

The Yellow Button is located on the corner of S. Main St. and Bruce St., in the space where La De Da used to be.
